Lecture on Capitol project research at MHS, 7pm Jan 27
History Lounge: Who Built Our Capitol?
Minnesota History Center, St. Paul MN
Dates: Jan. 27, 2015
Time: 7 p.m.
Fee: Free
Minnesotans may know that Cass Gilbert designed the State Capitol, but until this project, very little was known about the men and women who actually built it. Randy Croce, project director and video producer at the University of Minnesota Labor Education Service, will discuss how he and his team uncovered and recorded the lives of over 620 previously anonymous statehouse builders and show clips from the resulting documentary, "Who Built Our Capitol?" His talk will highlight the challenges and rewards of the research: sparse and sometimes conflicting information, exaggerated and humorous accounts, and the effort to create a coherent documentary narrative from fragmentary sources.
