Jacob Schwartz

Occupation: 

Dale and Bumgardner payroll. Jacob Schwartz was born in Minnesota of German parents in 1868. He worked on the Capitol as a laborer grading the grounds.

Most of the workers who constructed the Minnesota Capitol belonged to unions. However, it is not clear whether St. Paul laborers were organized during the period when the Capitol was built nor how many laborers or which jobs were represented by a union between 1896 and 1907. So whether Schwartz was a union member during the Capitol construction is currently unknown.

Frank B. Pampusch

Occupation: 

1903 and 1904 City Directories. Frank Pampusch was born in Germany in 1846 and emigrated with his wife, Josephine and 4 of their eventual 10 children in 1881. Frank worked as a carpenter in St. Paul for many years raising his large family here. Several sons went into the printing trades and one, Frank Jr., became a prominent official in the Printers' Union. According to Find a Grave, Frank Pampusch Sr. died in 1917 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery, St. Paul.

Frederick Bucholtz

Occupation: 

1904-1905 Butler Bros. Payroll. 1904 City Directory. Frederick Bucholtz worked as a laborer on the Capitol. Frederick Bucholtz was born in Germany in 1866 and came to Minnesota in 1893. He and his wife, Marie, were married in St. Paul and they raised a family here.

August Jahnke

Occupation: 

Dale and Bumgardner Payroll. August Jahnke was born in Germany in 1833 and emigrated with his wife in 1863. In 1905, at the age of 71, he worked as a teamster grading the Capitol grounds.

William Albrecht

Occupation: 

Dale and Bumgardner Payroll. William Albrecht was born in Germany in 1834 and emigrated in 1880. In 1905, at about the age of 70, worked as a teamster on grading the Capitol grounds. He was still working as a teamster for the city of St. Paul in 1910.
