Pat Boland

1905 Dale and Bumgardner Payroll. Teamster Pat Boland ("Bolin" in the payroll) was born in Indiana in 1856 and moved to Minnesota about 1880. He worked on the grading of the Capitol grounds.
Teamster
Before the advent of motorized transport, teamsters were individuals who drove a team of draft animals, usually horses or mules. As the Minnesota Capitol building was built before the introduction and availability of heavy trucks, the movement of heavy construction materials such as marble blocks and gravel were accomplished by teamsters and their horses and wagons.

Wentzle Leier

According to his great grandson, Wentzle Leier worked a sledge with his team of horses to dig the foundation of the Minnesota State Capital.
Emile R. Hegg
Occupation:
Dale and Bumgardner payroll. Emile R. Hegg worked on the grading of the Capitol grounds as a teamster. He was born in Sweden in 1874 and emigrated in 1884.
Most of the workers who constructed the Minnesota Capitol belonged to unions. While a specific union affiliation has not been found for Hegg, the Teamsters were organized in St. Paul at the time the Capitol was built, so he was most likely a union member. John Geary, who also worked grading the Capitol grounds, was founding member of Teamsters 120.
Jerome Drew

Dale and Bumgardner payroll. Jerome Drew was born of German parents in 1869 in Minnesota. He worked as a teamster on grading the Capitol grounds.
Most of the workers who constructed the Minnesota Capitol belonged to unions. A specific union affiliation has not been found for Jerome Drew, but other Teamsters in St. Paul at the time the Capitol was built were members of Local 120 (co-founded by John Geary, another Teamster who did grading work at the Capitol), so Drew was most likely a member of the local too.
William Webb

Dale and Bumgardner payroll. William Webb worked as a teamster on the grading of the Capitol grounds. He was born in Minnesota in 1880.
Erick Turnquist
Occupation:
Dale and Bumgardner payroll. Erick Turnquist was born in Sweden in 1879 and emigrated with his family in 1884. The family moved to St. Paul from Grantsberg, Wisconsin in 1903 and Erick went to work as a teamster.
Arthur Lynch
Occupation:
Dale and Bumgardner payroll. Arthur Lynch worked as a teamster on the grading of the Capitol grounds. He was born in Minnesota in 1884 and had moved to St. Paul in 1902 with his parents and siblings from rural Swift County where they were farmers. Lynch married and raised a large family in St. Paul.

William Miller
Occupation:
1904 City Directory. William Miller worked on the Capitol as a teamster.
David Mead
Occupation:
1904 City Directory and 1905 Payroll. Teamster David Mead was born in Minnesota of English parents in 1864. Dale and Bumgardner Payroll. Mead's name is in the Dale and Bumgardner Payroll and he also named Butler Bros. as his employer in the 1904 City Directory.
