Women-Photographs

The research surrounding female workers on the Capitol construction site was challenging as they left behind almost no historical records. The few names that were found were located in payroll records at the Minnesota Historical Society and only deligent research on the part of Dan Ganley, one of the project researchers, brought to light the circumstances surrounding their employment. Unfortunately no photographs of any of the female workers has been located to date. There are however a number of photographs that show the damage that the storm of Augst 1904 wrought on the House of the Good Shepard, home to many of the female workers, and to other buildings in Saint Paul, and these are included here. Another photograph of women working in a laundry during this time period is also included to demonstrate the type of setting that some of the women from the House of the Good Shepard may have found themselves working in.
